About l'ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts

Founded in 2012 with the support of the Maison Van Cleef & Arpels, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts aims to share jewelry culture with the widest possible audience, throughout eras and civilizations. Through its courses, talks, exhibitions, publications and research projects, L’ÉCOLE opens up a territory that has remained unknown and compartmentalized for too long.

The project

Since 2020, L’ÉCOLE, School of Jewelry Arts has supported the development of Paris School of Mines Mineralogy Museum. It is supporting the publication of a book, co-edited with Gallimard, about the site, its history and its exceptional collections of minerals, gemstones, meteorites and rocks, scheduled for release in September 2022. L’ÉCOLE is also making a scientific contribution to the preparation of an exhibition devoted to the major donors who have contributed to the enrichment of the collections of the Mineralogy Museum. Finally, its director has been a member of the Scientific Council of L’ÉCOLE since its creation in 2016.

About Orange Foundation

The Orange Foundation has been a driver of the Group’s commitment for over 30 years. Today, many employees are active in the field, everywhere, making digital technology an enabler of equal opportunity. Digital technology can really help unemployed jobseekers, creating openings through its many new functions, giving those who are worst off access to education and healthcare. Making digital technology even more useful to the community is the Orange Foundation’s priority. For those who do not even have the basics, the Foundation also provides solutions to improve living conditions.

The Orange Group is proud to contribute to the development of the digital world. The Group is also aware of its responsibility. That is why it undertok to provide offers that respect the planet and people, to help everybody enjoy access to the possibilities that new technologies open up and to contribute to the economic and social development of the countries where the Orange Group is present. The group' action supports two United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The project

As part of its cultural sponsorship action, the Orange Foundation launched a call for projects called "Access to culture with museums", to which the Mineralogy Museum responded. In 2021, the "Hello? Minerals in our cellphones!" project was thus selected, and set up from September 2021, until the end of 2022. This educational project is aimed at teenagers far from the world of culture and science using the link between the mobile phone and current societal issues. The aim of the project is to introduce middle and high school students from classes in priority education areas to the issues that revolve around the discovery, exploitation and transformation of the minerals necessary for the manufacture of smartphones, as well as their  technological, economic, geostrategic and environmental impacts. The program, defined in 2 workshops - one at the ESPCI, the other at the Museum, was developed in partnership with the association TRACES, and has been labeled as part of the Year of Mineralogy 2022, by the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, selected by UNESCO and the United Nations as a priority for 2022.
